Over the past week I've been working on putting together the basis of a nordic themed environment inspired by the newest God of War game. The work in that game blew me away and I wanted to put together something in a similar vein.
So of course, like any good artist. First stop was rocks, specifically modular tiling rocks that I could use to simulate the sweeping cliffs and great mountains associated with nordic myth.
I'm using world tiling rock and moss materials to enable great formations and cliffs from even a single rock as shown here. Right now I think that both materials need some work, but it's a good start. I'm intending to add vertex blending to the rocks as well, for some manual control on the moss and to shade between two rock textures in order to break up the tiling.
